Renee completed her Articles at Cornwall Stodart and commenced practice as a solicitor in their Dispute Resolution group. She subsequently moved to Phillips Fox where she continued her litigious practice in their Professional Indemnity group.

At Cornwall Stodart, Renee acted in commercial and contract law disputes, competition law and trade practices claims, intellectual property and information technology disputes, insurance claims, property law disputes, and bankruptcy and insolvency matters. At Phillips Fox, she continued to gain experience in commercial and contractual disputes, and she also acted for a range of professionals (including directors/officers, accountants/stockbrokers/financial planners, real estate agents, valuers, and members of various medical professions) in proceedings for damages, under instructions from their professional indemnity insurers.

Renee has developed a special interest in the legal aspects of the media industry. She has acted on behalf of high profile plaintiffs in defamation actions, and defended defamation actions on behalf of a variety of national publishers. She was involved in the National Defamation Research Project in 2002/03, and has prepared a number of defamation presentations and written papers since her admission to practice. Renee has also been involved in other media related matters including television broadcasting disputes, website content disputes, suppression orders and issues relating to licensing rights.

Renee has appeared in the Federal Court, the Supreme Court (and the Court of Appeal), the County Court, the Magistrates Court, the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal, and before a range of disciplinary tribunals. She has also represented clients at mediations and pre-hearing conferences.
